Go medieval! Girdle books were small portable books worn on a belt by clerics and aristocrats during the Middle Ages. Update this accessory and make your own very private miniature book. Instead of a book of prayers, it could contain your favorite quotes or poems or even a secret coded list of passwords.

We shall be using the traditional monastery stitch or kettle stitch with its tightly woven linen book tape to hand sew the signatures into a text block. For the covers, we shall cover boards with handmade washi papers, waxed or left natural. You’ll have the option of creating a slightly recessed ‘window’ on the cover in which you could mount a tiny, treasured object or make a secret pocket inside. Make a finger-woven belt to match or complement your precious book.
