Description:

See how Uzbeks design, dye and weave silk velvet with intricate, geometric patterns and vivid colors. Learn the resist process of tying and untying to achieve a full spectrum from 3 dye baths. Test your resist binding skills by wrapping a sample pile warp for a simple, two-color pattern.

Come to the workshop with your 8-shaft loom dressed with the ground warp and the stand-in pile warp. In class, tie on pile warps already dyed in different patterns arranged in a sequence to create your original design. See your design emerge weaving velvet using brass slats for velvet rods and a scalpel for cutting pile.
