Description:
This workshop will introduce students to two ways to wind a warp with multiple threads: the Scottish way of “picking the cross” and a Japanese way which is well, Japanese. The two ways arrange the threads in a different order on the warping frame and can be used together for varying effects.
Once we have threaded looms with heather yarns for a gamp/scarf project we will continue to explore color and weave effects with the shuttle and treadling; celebrating with a waulking at the end to finish the cloth in the Scottish tradition.
This workshop will include a slide show about warping traditions around the world to inspire fearlessness in all aspects of warping!
Students should have some experience reading a draft and threading a loom.
